Shaka Loveless visits Palestine as DCA Ambassador

On September 8, 2016, The Lutheran World Federation welcomed Danish singer and rapper Shaka Loveless to Augusta Victoria Hospital (AVH). Loveless serves as an Ambassador for DanChurchAid (DCA) and was visiting Palestine this past week to learn more about the work of DCA and Norwegian Church Aid, including their support of LWF programs.

While at AVH, Loveless visited multiple departments including the new Diabetes Center, Adult Dialysis Center, and our Cancer Care Center, learning about the specialty services that AVH provides to thousands of Palestinians each year. Loveless spoke with AVH CEO Walid Nammour, LWF Representative Mark Brown and numerous AVH staff and discussed the importance of AVH as a Palestinian institution and saw firsthand the impact that AVH has for its individual patients from the West Bank and Gaza and the community as a whole.

Loveless also met and sang for some AVH patients and their families. He performed in the post-surgery ward, the adult dialysis unit, and the Specialized Center for Child Care.  Although he sang in Danish, the music was felt and appreciated by everyone.

Loveless plans to take his new knowledge back to Denmark and Norway to advocate for the DCA/NCA programme in Palestine and to build awareness about the work of its partners, including the LWF Vocational Training Program and Augusta Victoria Hospital.

We are grateful for his visit and hope to welcome him back to Jerusalem someday soon!
